Yesterday's Lynchburg News Advance includes an article about the drive-in and diner. In prior blog postings we wrote about it's move from Chesapeake, Virginia where this Starlite manufactured diner was known as Cosmo's Diner. As multi-screen movie theaters are the norm today, a single screen drive-in brings us back to times when the world was a lot less complicated.

It's been just about a month since Bob Craig's diner touched down in Moneta. The Roanoke Times published an article today about the progress. Courtney Cutright reports the diner expects to open in a couple weeks. Read the entire article here.

Mayberry Drive-In and Diner - Moneta, VA

On Tuesday the former Cosmo's diner was moved from Chesapeake, VA. Yesterday it was lowered onto it's new foundation off White House Road in Moneta, VA. We first spoke of Cosmo's in our June 23rd post. If all goes well, they expect to be up and running by Labor Day.

Cosmo's Diner - Chesapeake, VA

Soon it will be not only Elvis, but the entire building leaving too. Articles here, here, and here lead us to believe the former Cosmo's (pictured at left) has found a new home. The diner appeared during late February / early March 2008 on an Internet auction website. Although listed as a 1998, information we have suggests Cosmo's was a 1997 Starlite brand diner. Reportedly the land was sold to a drug store chain necessitating the sale.

The diner is on its way to the Moneta, VA area where it will be next to a planned drive-in theater. Though delayed, construction in the vicinity of Routes 122 and 608 is expected to begin soon. Bob Craig, the new owner expects to have the Mayberry Drive-in Theater and Diner open around September 2008.
